BRH Elementary Tech with Mrs. Palmgren
Hello, thanks for visiting my page. I am Mrs. Palmgren, one of the elementary technology teachers. I teach first through fourth grade technology (one of the third grade sections and one of the fourth grade classes). This is my first year ever teaching technology, and I'm really enjoying it. Michigan has its own technology standards, and in addition to MI standards the common core standards incorporate the use of technology in both ELA and math. We have had a very busy school year learning new technology skills, and meeting technology standards. My goal is to prepare the elementary for higher technology demands in junior high and high school and also in the real world as adults. Some of the skills and projects we have worked on are listed below:
*Technology Safety: At the end of each quarter we spend a week on technology safety.
*Computer Parts: Classes have learned the difference between input and output devices, and what the names and functions of the different computer parts are.
*Logging In: All students 1st-4th have their own usernames and have learned to quickly log on a computer and off. This is very exciting to the students as they get to save their work and open it back up on a different day.
*Volume: They have learned how to mute/unmute and change the volume on their computers. With this skill, they were taught where to plug in headphones.
*Google Chrome: Students are able to open Chrome, access the school website, and then follow it to this technology website where they access many of their assignments. YES, EVEN THE FIRST GRADERS! : )
*Minimize/Maximize/Exit: Students are able to "minimize," "maximize," and "exit" their current page using the tools in the upper right hand corner. They have also learned to do this skill using these technology vocabulary words: ie: "minimize your pages please"
*Copy/Paste: Students learned to highlight and then copy/paste something using the right mouse click AND cntrl C and cntrl V
*Paint Program: We have spent a lot of time in the Paint program. Some of the skills learned and done are listed below:
This is just a list of some of the great new things the elementary technology students have learned. We have sooo many more objectives to meet, and will continue to work hard to be prepared for 21st century learning with the use of technology. Blogging, QR codes, coding, word processing skills (typing), imovies, etc. are among some of the projects and skills planned for the remaining of the year.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Mrs. Palmgren's Elementary Technology Classes. If you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to contact me using the contact form on this website.

- Saving and Opening a document
- Resizing the canvas
- Inserting Text: Includes changing font size/style, and using bold, italicize, and underline tool
- Using the shapes tool
- Paint: Includes changing paintbrush, color, size
- Students have created a "creature" assignment. They had to access their assignment on this website. Copy and paste a picture into the paint program, and then add creative details to their creature. (See portfolio link for example)
- Students have used paint to summarize the beginning, middle, and end of a story they read in their ELA class. They then painted pictures next to their explanations to create a sequence assignment. (See portfolio link for example)
- After listening to an audio story on the internet, younger students painted their favorite character. The older classes painted the setting of the story.
